Why Pulau Strategy

What Makes Our Approach Different

We bring regional context, practical experience, and a considered pace to every engagement — qualities that tend to matter when the decisions are consequential.

Malaysian Regional Context

Our advisors understand the practical realities of operating across Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak — including regulatory differences, logistics constraints, and local commercial relationships.

Documented Findings

Every engagement concludes with written recommendations and findings — something you can reference, share internally, or return to as circumstances change.

Established Business Focus

We work with businesses that already have operations in place — not startups looking for a plan from scratch. This lets our conversations go deeper, faster.

ASEAN Trade Experience

We have worked with Malaysian exporters and manufacturers navigating ASEAN commercial environments — including the paperwork, relationships, and practical realities involved.

External Perspective

Sometimes the value of an outside advisor is simply seeing things that internal teams have grown accustomed to. We ask careful questions and share observations without an agenda.

Realistic Timelines

Engagements are structured with deliberate pacing — enough time to understand the situation properly, not so long that momentum is lost. Most run six to fourteen weeks.

Is There a Business Question Worth Thinking Through Together?

Most of our engagements begin with a straightforward conversation about where your business is and what you're working through. There's no obligation involved in reaching out.

Common Questions

What People Usually Ask First

A few things that tend to come up before businesses decide whether to reach out.

What kinds of businesses do you typically work with?
We work with established Malaysian businesses — trading companies, manufacturers, and service firms that have been operating for some time and are looking at a specific challenge or opportunity. Most clients have between 20 and 200 employees and meaningful existing operations.
How long does a typical engagement take?
It depends on the service. Cross-border trade advisory typically runs eight weeks. Our inter-island operations review spans ten to fourteen weeks depending on operational complexity. Coastal industry consultations run six to nine weeks. We can discuss what makes sense for your situation when we speak.
Do you work with businesses outside Kuala Lumpur?
Yes. A significant part of our work involves businesses with operations in East Malaysia — Sabah and Sarawak — as well as those with regional presence across ASEAN. For engagements that require site visits, we factor travel into the scope from the beginning.
What does the engagement process look like?
We begin with a conversation to understand your situation and whether there's a good fit. If we proceed, we agree on scope and timeline, then work through the engagement with regular check-ins. Everything concludes with documented findings and prioritized recommendations.
What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Fees are set per engagement: MYR 2,890 for cross-border trade advisory, MYR 3,180 for inter-island operations review, and MYR 425 for coastal industry consultation. Billing arrangements are discussed and agreed before work begins — typically structured across the engagement period.
How is confidential business information handled?
We take client confidentiality seriously. We operate under standard non-disclosure agreements, and information shared during an engagement is not shared with other clients or third parties. If you have specific confidentiality requirements, we're comfortable discussing them before any work begins.
